Useful information about ibogaine treatment
Drug and alcohol addiction is a common occurrence in the society today. A lot of people can attest to having parents, siblings or friends who have an addiction of some kind of substances. Some of the victims of substance addiction have been able to get help through rehabilitation, coming out clean at the end of the process. For others this has been a bumpy ride not being able to stay without craving for the substances while others have lost their lives. This article focuses on some of the treatment methodologies used in such addictions.
Ibogaine is a substance found in the iboga shrub from West Africa. This substance can be used as a stimulant in small doses but in large doses, can cause hallucinations, focused consciousness among other psychedelic effects. This substances however, has provided a breakthrough as some people would put it in the treatment of people addicted to opiates. Examples opiates include; heroin, codeine, morphine, fentanyl among many other substances that are highly abused as painkillers among many people.
Some of the stated ibogaine treatment when induced in large doses in a person include its ability to reduce opiate withdrawal symptoms greatly and therefore enabling a person to detox almost painlessly. Another effect is temporary elimination of opiate related craving. There are other ibogaine effects not yet stated as researchers are still doing more research to weigh if this substance is harmful or helpful.
Before any addict can undergo ibogaine therapy, the individual has to be medically tested. This is because there have been several deaths reported in particular countries where ibogaine treatment was used on individuals. The causes of such deaths were later to be discovered to be caused by certain pre existing factors in the individuals;
• heart or liver condition
• toxic combinations of ibogaine with other substances
• taking of this substance without medical supervision
• being on opiates while on ibogaine treatment or afterwards
• use of other extracts from iboga shrubs
Therefore medical testing is essential in finding if an individual has a liver or heart condition or is taking any other substance that would interfere with this therapy. Also it is important that a person undergoes treatment in a medical facility under the supervision of a trained therapist and not alone or with a friend at home or any other place.
It is advisable that a person does not base his decision about this therapy on ibogaine experience of a few individuals, but do extensive research. This is because if someone is aware of an individual who has undergone a positive ibogaine experience, the person will always tend to lean on the use of this substance. While for a person aware of another individual gone through a negative ibogaine experience, he or she will tend to shy away from this substance. Therefore thorough research is essential and also medical testing. As for those individuals wanting to use this substance out of context or for personal use this is not advisable as it can cause more damage than good.
